In a dramatic and controversial finish, Miami Grove FC of Florida captured the UPSL Women’s National Championship, defeating Scorpions FC of California in a penalty shootout after a tense 1–1 draw.

Miami Grove entered the final as favorites, but the match told a far more balanced story. Scorpions FC created the better chances throughout the game and looked poised to secure the title in regulation.

The breakthrough came in the 65th minute when Miami Grove defender Gio committed a sliding challenge inside the penalty area, resulting in a foul. Hollie confidently converted from the penalty spot to give Scorpions FC a 1–0 lead.

Scorpions continued to press for a second goal and nearly doubled their advantage in the 79th minute. Olga Luna, wearing number 22, struck a powerful shot that rattled the crossbar—an effort that could have sealed the championship with just over ten minutes remaining.

Despite the pressure, Miami Grove stayed alive and found their moment deep into stoppage time. In the 95th minute, Anita delivered a cross into the box near the penalty spot. In a highly debated sequence, the goalkeeper collided with Miami Grove attacker Sofia Carvajal in what officials did not rule a 50–50 challenge, awarding a penalty.

Four minutes later, in the 99th minute, Williams stepped up and converted, leveling the match 1–1 and forcing a penalty shootout.

In the shootout, Miami Grove held their composure to edge Scorpions FC. The kicks unfolded as follows:
• Scorpions FC: ❌❌✅❌✅
• Miami Grove FC: ❌❌✅✅✅

With the decisive kick converted, Miami Grove secured the championship along with a $15,000 prize.

The victory marks a remarkable rise for Miami Grove FC, a team formed less than two years ago in September 2024. Built on discipline and resilience, the squad is known for its early morning training sessions, often beginning at 7 a.m. Their mentality was summed up in a phrase repeated throughout the tournament: “Mente positiva.”

While Scorpions FC will reflect on missed opportunities, including multiple shots on goal and a near game-clinching strike, Miami Grove’s persistence and composure ultimately defined the final.
