LAFC 2 completed an improbable playoff run on Friday night, beating SoCal rivals Ventura County FC 1–0 in the Western Conference Final at Dignity Health Sports Park. Marius Aiyenero’s 63rd-minute strike, set up by Charlie Kosakoff, was the difference in the fourth meeting of 2026 between the two clubs, and it sends the sixth-seeded Black & Gold to the league’s championship match.

The Setup
On paper, this was Ventura County’s night. The Galaxy affiliate came in as the No. 3 seed after its best MLS NEXT Pro regular season yet: 14 wins, 53 points, and a Western Conference–leading 58 goals. VCFC had already shown it could win the hard way in the playoffs, surviving MNUFC2 3–2 in extra time before going to Portland and knocking out second-seeded Timbers2 1–0.

LAFC2 arrived as the underdog, but a confident one. The Black & Gold earned their place in the final with a stoppage-time winner from Sebastian Nava to stun No. 1 overall seed Austin FC II on the road.

The Goal
After a tense, physical first hour, the breakthrough came in the 63rd minute. Kosakoff found Aiyenero, and the forward, who has already earned a first-team call-up and an MLS debut this year, finished to put LAFC2 in front. It was the only shot of the night that beat a goalkeeper, and it was enough.

The Stand
LAFC2 controlled long stretches of the match, outshooting Ventura County 25–14 and piling up 12 corners to VCFC’s one. But the Black & Gold’s real work came at the other end.

Ventura County actually put more shots on target (seven to LAFC2’s five), and every one of them was turned away. LAFC2’s goalkeeper made seven saves to preserve the clean sheet, while his back line blocked nine more Ventura attempts before they could reach goal.
